What is a drum circle?

A drum circle is a group of people creating music together using various hand percussion instruments and connecting to one another, which helps build community.

“It’s the best part of my week!” is a comment we often hear from drum circle participants.

How long does a drum circle last?

It depends on the group and the goals of the group. A team building activity for a corporation may last 40-45 min, a large public event may last 1-2 hours, and a program for seniors between 30-60 minutes. The group tends to drive the time.

How much does a drum circle cost?

The cost depends on the size of the group and amount of instruments and facilitators required to successfully support the group size, the distance to travel and length of time desired by the event planner.

How many people are able to participate?

That depends on the location. Outdoor street party events can handle hundreds of participants with seatings being rotated over a period of time. Indoor events are limited by the size of the venue and maximum capacity rules. For example, One Tribe brings percussion instruments for 30-40 people where participants flow in and out of the drum circle and multiple sessions throughout the event are offered.

Where do people have drum circles?

Churches and Synagogues host drum circles in fellowship halls, outdoors in the parking lot or on a grassy field, or in the sanctuary. Senior Centers and Senior Living Communities use their activity room, living room, auditorium, or outdoors in a court yard. Public events and festivals use public parks, block off the street or host at a business location such as a brewery. Private events can be in a hotel meeting room or rental space−backyards and living rooms work great too!

What do I need to provide to host a drum circle?

We ask that the venue provide armless chairs for the participants. We can bring our sound system, or connect to yours, if needed.

Do I need to know how to drum?

All ages and experience levels are welcome. A One Tribe drum circle includes facilitation and quick basic drumming instruction, drums and hand percussion to share. Feel free to bring your own drum!

Do you offer Performances?

Yes! Suggested performance length is from 45 minutes to 1.5 hours (with a break). We can bring our sound system, or connect to yours.
